The Head of the CEITEC NANO research infrastructure at CEITEC BUT – Brno University of Technology is inviting applications for the position of:

Specialist in Nanofabrication Processes and European Pilot Lines

CEITEC Brno University of Technology is looking for a full-time specialist who will support Czech companies and research organisations, within the Czech Semiconductor Centre (CSC), in accessing and making use of European pilot lines for semiconductor technologies. This support will also include specialist work within the CEITEC Nano research infrastructure related to the preparation and development of CSC customer projects.

CEITEC BUT is a leading research centre in materials science, nanotechnology and advanced technologies. Its CEITEC Nano research infrastructure provides academic and industrial users with open access to state-of-the-art equipment for micro- and nanofabrication and materials analysis. Among other activities, it enables proof-of-concept validation and optimisation of individual technological steps before projects progress to pilot-scale manufacturing validation.

CEITEC BUT is a partner of the Czech Semiconductor Centre (CSC) – the Czech national competence centre for chips and semiconductors. CSC helps companies, start-ups and research organisations accelerate the development of semiconductor technologies by providing access to European pilot lines, expertise and other services offered under the Chips for Europe initiative. We are looking for a specialist who can combine practical experience in micro- and nanotechnologies with supporting Czech organisations in accessing European pilot lines.

What you can expect in this role

Your main responsibility will be to support CSC customers in developing semiconductor technologies: assessing the technological readiness of their projects, recommending the most appropriate next steps and, where required, facilitating access to CEITEC Nano, European pilot lines or other suitable research infrastructures.

At CEITEC Nano, you will primarily contribute to CSC customer projects that require proof-of-concept validation, optimisation of individual technological steps or appropriate nanocharacterisation before progressing to pilot-scale manufacturing validation.

You will serve as a technical link between CSC customers, the CEITEC Nano research infrastructure and European pilot lines. Your objective will be to help move research and development results towards pilot validation and, subsequently, industrial application.

Your responsibilities

1. Within the Czech Semiconductor Centre

  • Assessing the technological readiness of projects and recommending an appropriate pathway from laboratory validation to pilot validation of manufacturing steps.
  • Identifying a suitable European pilot line or other research infrastructure according to the nature and requirements of each project.
  • Providing technical consultations to companies, start-ups and research organisations interested in using European pilot lines.
  • Communicating with European pilot lines, competence centres and other international partners.
  • Supporting clients in preparing applications and technical documentation and coordinating access to pilot lines.
  • Monitoring the technological capabilities and services available through European pilot lines.
  • Contributing to the development of CSC services, promoting European pilot lines and proactively reaching out to potential users of these services among Czech companies and research organisations.

2. Within CEITEC Nano

  • Providing specialist support for CSC customer projects implemented using the CEITEC Nano infrastructure in the fields of micro- and nanofabrication and nanocharacterisation.
  • Contributing to the design, optimisation and implementation of technological steps required for proof-of-concept validation and the further development of CSC customer projects.
  • Working with specialists from individual CEITEC Nano laboratories to address technological challenges related to CSC projects.
  • Supporting continuity between the validation and optimisation of technological steps at CEITEC Nano and the subsequent transfer of projects to an appropriate pilot line.

Who are we looking for?

Requirements

  • A university degree in engineering or natural sciences, such as microelectronics, semiconductor technologies, nanotechnology, materials engineering, physics or a related field.
  • Practical experience in micro- and nanofabrication or nanocharacterisation in a cleanroom environment.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing and micro-/nanofabrication processes.
  • The ability to design, analyse and optimise technological processes and assess the interdependencies between individual manufacturing steps.
  • An understanding of the process of moving technologies from laboratory research to pilot validation and industrial application.
  • An excellent command of English, enabling independent communication with international partners.
  • Good communication and organisational skills, independence and a systematic approach to work.
  • Willingness to travel within the Czech Republic and abroad.

Desirable experience and qualifications

  • A PhD or equivalent professional experience in semiconductor technologies.
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry or within a research infrastructure focused on micro- and nanotechnologies.
  • Experience in technology integration or transferring technologies from research into pilot-scale or industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with the European semiconductor ecosystem, including Chips for Europe, the Chips Joint Undertaking and European Pilot Lines.
  • Experience in preparing or coordinating research and development projects.
  • Experience in communicating with industrial partners or providing technology consultancy.
  • Experience with MEMS, photonics, advanced packaging, power electronics or other semiconductor technologies.
  • Familiarity with integrated circuit design (Chip Design) and related design tools.

What we offer

  • A unique role connecting the CEITEC Nano research infrastructure, the Czech Semiconductor Centre and European pilot lines.
  • Work at the interface of research, development and industrial applications in semiconductor technologies.
  • Involvement in the activities of the CEITEC Nano research infrastructure and collaboration with leading experts in micro- and nanofabrication and nanocharacterisation.
  • Collaboration with European pilot lines, research infrastructures and industrial partners.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the development of new CSC services and influence their future direction.
  • Opportunities for professional development, participation in conferences and specialist training, as well as international business travel.
  • Remuneration commensurate with your expertise and experience.
  • Full-time employment with the prospect of long-term collaboration.
  • Flexible working hours and the option of partial remote working.
  • Six weeks of annual leave and BUT employee benefits.

Applications should include

  • A structured CV.
  • A cover letter.
  • Evidence of your highest completed level of education.
  • Contact details for a person who can provide a reference (optional).

Terms and key dates

  • Expected start date: By agreement, ideally from October 2026.
  • Place of work: CEITEC BUT, Purkyňova 656/123, 612 00 Brno, Czech Republic.
  • Working hours: 1.0 FTE – full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
  • The role combines work in the laboratory and office with business travel.

Please submit your complete application no later than 3 October 2026 via the link. In the subject line, please state the position for which you are applying: Specialist in Nanofabrication Processes and European Pilot Lines.

The recruitment process will consist of two rounds. The first round will take place without the candidate’s participation and will involve assessing applicants’ suitability on the basis of the documents submitted. Suitable candidates will be invited to a second-round personal interview.

Both stages of the selection process will be conducted on a rolling basis following receipt of applications.
